Blessings or Blastings

By Skip Heitzig

Imagine standing on the twentieth floor of a building and saying, "I don't care about the law of gravity. I don't want to live under it. I want my liberation," and then exercising your freedom with that kind of thinking. That's not a smart law to ignore, is it? You'll end up a big splat on the sidewalk.

As silly as that sounds, it brings us to

Covetousness or Contentment?

By Skip Heitzig

Our attitude toward material things reveals a lot about us, whether we have a tight grip on things or a light touch. That's the subject of the tenth and final commandment: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's" (

The Most Important Job in the World

By Skip Heitzig

I think of all the tasks we could ever be assigned, all the occupations we could ever be engaged in, especially within marriage, the most important is that of being a parent. But it's also one of the toughest. By the time you're experienced, you're out of a job. Just when you're getting the hang of it, your kids leave the house!

Now, you might have already raised your children a...

How to Have a Love Affair with Your Spouse

By Skip Heitzig

Sometimes in relationships, what begins with flowers, breakfast in bed, love notes, and opening doors for the girl of one's dreams can end with a couple sleeping back to back or in separate rooms, sweatpants, and slamming doors on each other. Sound familiar to you?

Today I want to talk about the sensitive topic of intimacy and sex in marriage. But here's the deal: sex cannot be discussed by...

The King of Christmas

By Skip Heitzig

For years, Santa Claus has been regarded as the undisputed king of Christmas. Well, we as believers know he is not. He may be the king of shoppers and commercialism, but Jesus Christ is the real King of Christmas.

In chapter 9 of his book, Isaiah brings us back six hundred years before the nativity of Christ and gives us a description of this King: "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the g...

Festive Feasting

By Skip Heitzig

When I was eighteen years old, I remember seeing a Christian band play at a rally at my secular high school. What really grabbed my attention was that they were playing my kind of music, but they were singing about Jesus and doing it with such joy.Later on when I joined a church, I also decided to join the worship team. From the beginning, I just loved the idea of using joyful, celebratory music to speak about the Lord.

In Jesus' Name

By Skip Heitzig

Some of the most important keys of communicating with God are found in John 14: "Whatever you ask in My name," Jesus said, "that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it" (vv. 13-14). In speaking these words, Jesus opened the possibility of prayer very wide while also balancing it with certain boundaries.

Sometimes we think that all we have to do is pray in J...

Winning the War with Anxiety

By Skip Heitzig

I came across an interesting diet plan called the Stress Diet. For breakfast: half a grapefruit, one piece of whole wheat toast, and eight ounces of skim milk. For lunch: a four-ounce lean boiled chicken breast, one cup of steamed zucchini, one Oreo cookie, and herb tea. For a midafternoon snack: the rest of the package of Oreo cookies. For dinner: two loaves of garlic bread, a large mushroom and pepperoni pizza, a larg...
